Questions We Hear Every Day — Answered Honestly

How do I know what system is right for me?

Our team will work with you, tailoring a bespoke package that will suit your household needs and ensure that you can start saving from day one. MiniGrid only works with some of the world’s leading PV manufacturers, so you can have confidence that you are getting the best equipment on the market.

Most systems linked to the grid will not work in the event of a power cut. However, at MiniGrid we pride ourselves on providing secure off-grid options if you wish to have a home backup system or go fully off-grid.

At MiniGrid, we accept cash and various credit cards, and now offer no upfront payment plans. To learn more, please get in touch with one of our advisors.

All our packages are bespoke and made to suit our clients. At MiniGrid, we have access to a range of high-performing, top-specification panels.

All systems installed are remotely monitored by us. We use local installers, which helps ensure that if something goes wrong, your system can be seen to without delay.

During your initial introductory call, our Solar Surveyor will often request a copy of your electric bill. This will help our surveyors understand your current annual usage and expenditure, and allow them to provide a realistic forecast along with a tailored packaged best suited for your household.

Most MiniGrid residential systems are between £8,000 and £15,000 depending on size, components, and location. Finance options are available from £0 upfront — and in most cases the monthly saving on your bill exceeds the monthly finance repayment from day one. We’ll always give you a written quote before you commit to anything.

For most MiniGrid customers, the payback period is between 5 and 8 years — depending on system size, energy usage and tariff. After payback, you’re generating free electricity for the remaining 20+ years of the panel’s lifespan. The Smart Export Guarantee also pays you for electricity you export to the grid.

Most homes with a south-, east- or west-facing roof are well-suited to solar. Even north-facing roofs can be viable in the right circumstances. We’ll carry out a free assessment and give you an honest answer — we won’t sell you a system that won’t perform.

In most cases, no. Solar panels on domestic properties are permitted development in England, which means no planning application is needed. We’ll advise you if your property is listed or in a conservation area.

Standard grid-tied solar systems do switch off during a power cut for safety. However, if you have battery storage with the right inverter setup, you can keep essential appliances running during an outage. We’ll design your system accordingly if backup power is important to you.

Yes — solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunshine. Performance is lower in winter but never zero. Most MiniGrid systems still generate useful electricity year-round, and battery storage means you’re using your own power in the evenings regardless of the season.
